3 Tips for Pulling off Red Prom Dresses

Nothing says glamorous like red prom dresses. Choosing the right color for prom has always been a struggle for me. As much as I love red, it doesn’t always flow with my style. After a few formal events I learned that there are few tricks to pulling off red prom dresses for the picture-perfect look of your dreams.

  1. Get a tan. The problem with red is that if you are not a skinny Minnie then it can make you shine bright like a diamond at an event. I’m not about that level of attention but quickly found that one way to subdue the color is to pair it with your own tanned skin. A quick trip to the spray tanning salon the day before prom and I went from Casper to sun-kissed goddess and rocked my dress with ease.
  2. Pair with black accessories. Black is the color of elegance – there is no doubt about that. Adding a few carefully selected black accessories to my dress was all I needed to break up the sea of red. First, I selected a simple black sash and tied it around my waist in a large bow. This not only minimized the color but also gave the illusion of an hourglass figure. Next, I chose a chunky fashion necklace to bring the eyes upward when I moved about the dance floor.
  3. Keep your hair down. Naturally I wanted a stylish up do for my prom but after a little researched learned that a simple down hair style could really accent the dress and once again dull down the vibrant red. In the end, I was confident in my prom attire and got a night full of compliments and fun memories to boot.
